Nantucket Scallop Cup Regatta
October 22, 2011
Frosty sailors are invited to Nantucket for racing and comraderie.
Racing
The racing is always adventurous, and this weekend is forecasted to follow the trend. It's still early but NOAA is forecasting winds at 12 knots with gusts to 15. This should be a perfect start for our season. The course is right off the Nantucket Yacht Club which is about 100 yards from the Ferry and 50 yards from downtown - very beautiful place to hang out and sail.
Hospitality
Chad has graciously agreed to host this regatta this year. I think there will be a party Saturday night at Nick Judson's house on Saturday night on 1 Easy Street. I'm not sure what the accommodations are this year so definitely check with Chad.

Ferry
You drive down to Hyannis on Friday night or Saturday morning and catch the ferry over to Nantucket. Generally people put their Frostys on Dollys or a wagon and bring them on the ferry. Some people carry them - if you do bring a blanket to lay it down on. The ferry charges $35 for you, and $14 for your Frosty (bike rate) - $49 round trip. The Ferry Leaves Hyannis to Nantucket at 9:15am, 2:45pm and 8pm. If you catch the Saturday morning 9:15am you are right on time for the racing. Coming home Sunday there are ferrys scheduled for 6:30am, 12 noon and 5:30pm. The phone number for the Hyannis Ticket Office is (508)771-4000. No need for reservations unless you're bringing a car.
The ferry is about 80 miles from Boston --> go through town, get on route 3 south, go over the Sagamore bridge onto the cape. Take route 6 to exit 7 Willow Street. At end of ramp, take a left onto Willow, through the lights to a stop sign, right on Main street, 1st left onto pleasant. At stop sign take a left onto South street -terminal is on the right. Most people drop their boats at the terminal than go to the offsite parking. The Steamship guys will give you directions (5 minute walk).
